Al-Ka’bah (The Cube) is the most sacred site in Islam. It is surrounded by Masjid-Al-Haram (The Grand Mosque) which is located in Makkah (The Sacred City) of Mecca (Arabic Makkah, ancient Bakkah). Mecca is the holiest of Muslim cities, located in Western Saudi Arabia. As one of the main destinations of the hajj and ʿumrah (pilgrimages), it receives millions of worshippers each year. Mecca is the birth place of the prophet.
Indeed the first House of worship established for mankind was that at Bakkah, it is full of blessing. (Quran 3:96).
And [mention] when Abraham was raising the foundations of the House and [with him] Ishmael, [saying], “Our Lord, accept [this] from us. Indeed, You are the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing. (Quran 2:127).
And [mention, O Muḥammad], when We designated for Abraham the site of the House, [saying], “Do not associate anything with Me and purify My House for those who perform ṭawāf and those who stand [in prayer] and those who bow and prostrate. (Quran 22:26).
Al-Masjid An-Nabawi (The Prophet’s Mosque) is the second most sacred site in Islam. The mosque is also known as Al-Haram Madinah, located in Al-Madinah An-Nabi (The City of The Prophet). Madinah Al-Munawwarah (The Glowing/Enlightened City) is the second holiest of Muslim cities. The mosque also served as a community center, a court, and a religious school. Madinah is located at the capital of Madinah Province of Saudi Arabia. Two other historical mosques in the city of Madinah is Masjid Quba (the first mosque built in Madinah) and Masjid Qiblatain (the mosque that have had two Qiblah directions).
And say [O, Prophet], “My Lord! Grant me an honorable entrance [to Madinah] and an honorable exit [from Makkah] and give me a supporting authority from Yourself.” (Quran 17:80).
Masjid Al-Aqsa (The Farther Mosque) also known as Al-Haram As-Sarief (The Noble Sanctuary) is the third most sacred site in Islam. The mosque is located at the Old City of Jerussalem, the third holiest of Muslim cities. The mosque was built after the the first house of worship. The first qiblah (prayer direction) was toward Masjid Al-Aqsa.
Exalted is He who took His Servant [Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ] by night from al-Masjid al-Ḥarām to al-Masjid al-Aqṣā, whose surroundings We have blessed, to show him of Our signs. Indeed, He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing. (Quran 17:1).
